Team Edward In Full Swing; ‘Twilight’ Hits The Screen
In case you never turn on the television or don’t live close enough to your local movie theatre to hear the squeals of glee, much acclaimed debut novel of Stephanie Meyer, Twilight, hit the big screen this weekend. Never heard of it? Click here for full details. In short, we’re talking about dark romance, the timeless bonds of family and vampires.
Need I say more? Really? Enough said.
Anyway, fans of the Twilight series are very familiar with hottie vampire boyfriend (object of much lust) Edward Cullen and clumsy high school junior Bella Swan. It’s your typical love story, really. Boy meets girl. Boy and girl fall in love. Boy has to fight his desire to drain girl of every drop of her blood.
On the surface, it doesn’t sound like the kind of plot that would break box office records in its opening weekend; Twilighters (fans of the Twilight series) knew different. In the Dallas/Fort Worth area alone, showings were sold out days in advance. The question on everyone’s mind was whether the movie could possibly life up to the greatness of the novel.
Only time will tell if the Twilight movie can live up to the hype once the die-hard Twilighters have left the theatre and the general public is finally able to take a seat, but if the midnight showing for which I was able to get tickets is any indication then everyone will be able to agree on one thing: the actors were, well…wow-hot. Whole discussion boards have passed the time until the premiere discussing at length whether Robert Pattison would make a suitable on-screen Edward Cullen. (You may remember him from his role in the Harry Pottermovies as Cedric Diggory) My own sister told me the day I purchased our Twilight tickets online that she had a problem with him in the role as she felt his hair was “all wrong.” Of course, the moment he first walked onto the screen I looked over at her - yes, I do get major big sister points for taking her to 12:01 screening - and could tell by the hanging jaw she recanted her earlier statement.
As you may have already gathered, I enjoyed Twilight (movie and book) a great deal. Yes, I would have perhaps enjoyed it more had I not had a theatre full of teenagers oohing and ahhing and giggling over everything. And it was a bit distracting during a kiss scene to have a group of boys in the back shout, “Oh, get over it already and just kiss her,” but that’s the beauty of being a grown-up, I suppose. They all have to go back to school after the Thanksgiving holiday and I can still go back for a second (or third) viewing of the movie in the middle of the day on Wednesday. Ha.
But don’t take my word for it. Read Twilight and pick a side. Team Edward or Team Jacob? Life or Death?
Oh…and don’t forget to pace your diet coke consumption during the movie. It’s two hours long, you know.
