Smokers - Patch It Up

Published by Dark Passenger at 12:29 pm under Darkives Edit This

Happy Tuesday, dark passenger peeps!  Guess what time it is?  Yes, yes, it is time for Talk to Me Tuesday, but it’s also time for a special guest poster.

And today it’s really extra special because our guest is a doctor - oh yeah - so you’ll get some real and practical advice on how to stop smoking instead of the usual crazy ramblings I provide.  Don’t worry…I’ll still provide some crazy ramblings for y’all later when I start talking about my personal vice, since I’m not a smoker.

So without further ado, here’s Health by Dr. Atif Farid . (Make sure to go show some love to the doc when you’re done reading and commenting here.)

Take it off and then put it on!If you’ve decided to quit smoking, that’s a great start.  One way to make it easier on you is using a nicotine patch.  Placing the patch on your skin will release nicotine into your bloodstream and reduce your craving.

When you smoke, nicotine is absorbed into your bloodstream very quickly from your lungs. Within half an hour, your blood level of nicotine drops and you crave for more.

However, the nicotine patch releases nicotine at a slower pace into your bloodstream. And by the end of the day, it tapers off thereby reducing the craving.

Tips:

Wear that patch with pride!1. Place the patch on a dry skin for maximum benefits.
2. Place the patch on a different area of your skin everyday.
3. Always wash your hands after using the patch to prevent nicotine irritating your eyes.
4. Do not smoke with the patch on as it can lead to severe illness and death due to nicotine overdose.
5. Since nicotine stays in your bloodstream for several hours (by the nicotine patch), removing the patch will not help.
6. Always dispose the patch safely as some amount of nicotine may be left behind which may be harmful for children.

Alright dark passengers,  make sure to join me in thanking the good doctor for that extremely informative post.  Seriously, isn’t this the time of year when we’re all vowing to turn over a new leaf, give up our bad habits and become better people?  If you’re a smoker, can you think of a better way to start off the new year than kicking the habit that’s slowly killing you while stealing all your cash?

I can’t.  But if you can, let’s talk about it!  And if you can’t, let’s talk about how it’s going for you! Tongue out

Jen

I have to send this to my Mum, two sisters and Brother in Law as they all smoke like chimneys. I tried so hard to get them to quit but do you think they will listen to me lol?

Your blog is too sunny and cherry and white to be a “dark” blog. Just an F.Y.I. LOL

Wayne John - Sounds like me when I’m on a chocolate rampage. ;) Good luck if you decide to try again this year…or should I be wishing good luck to your family and truck?

Yan - For what it’s worth, my family don’t ever listen to me either. I’ve tried for at least 15 years to get my dad to quit…no dice. :(

Jolie - I know. It was black until I swapped for the new format we’ll all soon have. It may be bright and happy - for now - but it loads a whole lot faster than the old one. Besides, I know I’ll get a black and depressing color option pretty soon. :)

Marilyn - I knew, but I didn’t know if it was a for real thing or just one of those things they do in movies that don’t work. If you’ve ever seen the movie ‘Thank You For Smoking’, then you’ve seen the scene where they grab this guy and stick, I dunno, like a 100 nicotine patches on him and he ends up in the hospital…and nearly died from it. I’m glad we had a doctor around to give us the real facts and not the fiction facts…
