Your Dark Passenger

Welcome to Mental Monday, dark passengers.  Tonight we’re going to take a look at a phobia that makes women everywhere appear to be certifiably nuts.  Don’t misunderstand, sometimes we are just nuts, but in other cases, we suffer from anuptaphobia .

Surely you’ve run across one of those women who seems so desperate to get married that you have to wonder if she’d even notice that her groom was a mop so long as she got to say she was married.  Have you ever wondered why her behavior is so over the top?  It’s because of a phobia known as anuptaphobia - the fear of being or staying single.  Now guys, don’t get me wrong here, you can suffer from anuptaphobia too…it’s just different for women than it is for men.

Think about it.  When a man is single, he’s a bachelor.  And when he gets past a certain age he becomes known as a confirmed bachelor.  Women, on the other hand, go from being a single woman to a spinster.  How’s that fair?

But I digress…While there are some some people out there who are really just in love with the idea of being in love; others can’t control this all-consuming fear of singledom that takes over their lives.  The trouble is figuring out which is which.

And that’s no easy task.

So talk to me, peeps.  Do you believe anuptaphobia is a real phobia or just something made up to make commitment cravers feel better and less clingy?  If it’s real, how do you think you can tell the difference from a phobic person and a nutty person?
