Fear Week: Ghosts

Published by Dark Passenger at 11:57 pm under Paranormal and Supernatural Edit This

Are you scared of ghosts? Feeling the fear yet?

From the corner of your eye, you catch movement.  Is something there?  No.  Must be a shadow from the television.  It’s just your imagination.

A floorboard creaks.  A door slams shut.  Lights flicker.  The wind - I hope it was wind - howls and moans.  Despite the room’s warmth, a cold, hollow chill sweeps over you.  There goes that “shadow” in your peripheral vision again.

Fear Week continues.

Why do we fear ghosts?

As children, we’re told ghost stories around campfires.  Maybe our older sibling, if we have one, tells us how they saw a ghost outside the window or that the house is haunted.  Perhaps we snuck downstairs when we were supposed to be asleep and saw the scary movie our parents were watching.

Or maybe we had a more personal experience with ghosts; a reason to feel that fear.

Regardless of what our experience during our formative years, there seems to be something within our very being that is ingrained with a healthy fear of ghosts.  I mean, I’m fairly open-minded about all things paranormal; however, I like my dead things to stay dead.  I’m especially not wild about the idea of having a ghost watch me while I shower or slumber.  It just seems like an invasion of privacy and, well…unfair.  If a ghost is going to watch me shower then I should get to watch it shower, too.  Turnabout is fair play, after all.

But I digress.

There are two kinds of fear I associate with ghosts.  The first is the brief fear of surprise.  This might be experienced while washing the dishes and noticing a ghost go by.  Or perhaps you experience this fear the first time you have an encounter with the ghost of a loved one.  As they aren’t there to hurt you - only to finish some sense of unfinished business - it would be natural to feel that little leap of surprise in your heart…at first.  It passes though as there is no danger.  Without danger, is there a need for fear?

But then there is the second kind of fear associated with ghosts.  For this type of fear, I’m not talking about Casper the Friendly Ghost, peeps; I refer to the deadly ghosts bent on mayhem…poltergeists.  I’ve got to say, while it’s annoying to have a ghost watch me get dressed, it is much preferred to having a ghost trying to murder me.  Remember, I like my dead things to stay dead, not to try to make me a dead thing as well.  (Any fangirls who are thinking they wouldn’t mind being made a (un)dead thing by one Edward Cullen…hold your screams.  Fanpire vampires were last night.  We’re being serious now…for a bit.)

Y’all, I’m not playing around on this point.  If you’ve got orbs or harmless ghosts around then don’t worry so much.  They’ll go look for a Jennifer Love Hewitt nearby to whisper them.  But if you ever have a presence in your home that fills you with dread and terror - besides your teenager; they’ll grow out of that - then don’t be brave.  Get out.  And if that deadly ghost attacks you…GET THE BLEEP OUT NOW!  There are people and organizations out there who are trained and prepared to deal with hauntings.  Don’t think you’re going to walk in there with your cross and order them out.  Yes, it might work…

Or you might just really piss off the ghost.

Safety first…even if you think it’s all in your mind because you don’t believe in ghosts…safety first.  I’d rather you live to write in and tell me I’m full of crap than decide I’m full of crap and go in unprepared.

So, before everyone starts writing in about how I’m full of crap, anyone have any real life ghost stories they’ve experienced?  Anyone have any pictures?  Speaking of pics…If you look closely at the picture to either side of what appears to be a table area then you’ll see two faint ghosts.  It almost looks as though they’ve sat down to a meal and haven’t realized they’re dead yet.  What do you see?

Anyone willing to admit they fear ghosts?

Jen

When I was 11 months old, my grandmother put me in my grandfather’s lap - he was recovering at home after a heart attack - and told him “Watch the baby while I make lunch.” When she came back to the room, she found that he had died - with his arms around me, still in his lap. I never knew this story until I was in my teens, but I remember waking up at night OFTEN when I was a child and seeing a man standing by my bed (in my grandmother’s room) or sitting on the bed. We were looking through pictures one day and I stopped short, pointed to a man in a photo and said, “That’s the man who watches me at night!” My mother told me “That was my father. He died when you were a baby.” It was my grandmother who told me later that he’d died with me in his arms. I can only figure that he spent years doing exactly what she told him to do when she went to make lunch that day - watching over the baby from the other side. I still feel his presence sometimes, even though I have no memories of him from life.

Chameleonsdream - Wow. That’s my favorite kind of ghost story. Even though you didn’t know who he was when it was happening, was there any fear when you’d wake up and see him there or was it comforting?

Lilysgramma and Dragon29 - Thank you for the award/tag. :)

I have to admit that when I was little, shadows scared me to death. The man in the shadows scared me, too - but after I figured out he was my grandfather, not so much. I’d love to say that there was an awesome feeling of calm emanating from him and I felt protected even before I knew, but it’s just not true. I had no idea WHY he was there - just that there was a strange man in my bedroom.

To this day I’m a bit afraid of the dark. I always have to have some light in my room. I think though, that I am more curious as to why ghosts would want to contact me rather than fearing them.

I used Google search with this:( ghost said “watch the baby”). That is how I found you people here.
I have a true story to tell. This happened two nights ago.
My 18 yr old son had a buddy spend the night. visiting kids sleeping over usually sleep downstairs. The friend (Mike) was setting up his mattress downstairs alone, when he heard someone say “watch the baby”. When he looked in the living room, someone was standing between the wall heater and sofa apparently looking at him. they were about 6 foot tall, wearing a white tank top and shorts or pants. Their skin was glowing. they said nothing more, and disappeared. Mike is a big 19 yr old kid. soft spoken, honest. He ran upstairs scared. He was shaking uncontrolably. There is no baby at my house. My dog’s name is Baby. Does anybody by chance have some insight about this?

Hmm…sort of sounds like you don’t really like “us people here,” Phil. :)

I can think of two possibilities. The less probable one is that something was up with your dog.

The more probable one is that this entity is unaware they’re dead and is replaying a part of their life when they were telling someone to watch the baby. Perhaps it was a tragic moment in their life. Perhaps something nearly happened to their baby…or worse, it did happen to the baby. Either way, the reason most likely only makes sense to them.

Have you had any encounters like this since? Have you thought about trying to talk to them? If you have a voice recorder then you can try an EVP session in the area where the entity was seen. It might be helpful to know what they want. You could also try leaving the recorder running in that part of the house while you’re asleep to see if you’re able to capture anything out of the ordinary.
