God Bless America?

Should God Bless America? We hear it constantly.  It’s the subject of a song.  Presidents end their speeches with it.  Church leaders remind us to pray for those in power and for the country as a whole.  May God Bless America.  The words have become, well, just that.

Empty words.

The sentiment is nice; I don’t deny that.  Just thinking of getting the stamp of approval of the “Big Guy” in the sky is pretty cool.  The question is whether America deserves God’s blessing.

For purposes of this discussion, we will assume God does, in fact, exist.  Why?  Well, for one, the question is moot if God doesn’t exist.  Then there’s the fact that I’m not in the mood for a bunch of discussion from both sides of the philosophical question by people who act far too superior to even hear what the other side is saying.

Oh, I guess we should probably also assume God cares about any of us.  I mean, gods who don’t care probably can’t be bothered to hand out blessings.

So, let’s look at what we know: Continue Reading »

Are You a Fang Banger?

Well, how long did you really think I’d be able to go before I started talking vampires again?

And I missed being able to say “Welcome to Fang Bangin’ Friday” because that’s just an awesome thing to say.  It puts a smile on my face every time.

Anyway, the Season 1 DVD set of True Blood *points to picture* is out and I’m having to think long and hard about whether I need this or not.  Okay, so I already know I need it, but I’m trying to figure out how long I’m going to wait before I actually buy it.

For those of you living under a rock, True Blood is where I got the phrase ‘fang banger,” thus Fang Bangin’ Friday.  Hello?  Based on the Southern Vampire series of books?  The show where the vampires “come out of the coffin” and normal peeps have to cope with them and the bottles of True Blood they drink to survive?

Not ringing any bells?  *shrugs*

It’s odd.  I don’t buy a lot of TV shows that go to DVD.  The last one was S2 of Dexter. (Note to self…check when S3 goes on sale.)  But I really enjoyed True Blood this year.  I didn’t want to.  Oh…I did not want to.  I just couldn’t resist.

It’s vampires…in the South.  Y’all… Continue Reading »

Cinderella - Lessons Learned

Few fairy tales are as timeless as the story of Cinderella.  I think we all know the tale, but I’ll hit the basics anyway.  Oppressed by her wicked step-family after her father’s death, Cinderella meets her Fairy Godmother, goes to the Ball, meets the Prince and ends up with her Happily Ever After in two hours or less.

Ah, you have to love the people at Fat Head, makers of life-size wall goodies.  Just look at how happy that little girl is to have her idol on her wall.  And notice how poised and peaceful Cinderella is to be there.  Clearly, this picture was taken before Cinderella married her Prince Charming.

And clearly the little girl in the picture is still young enough to believe we all get our Happily Ever After…

Let’s chat about what Cinderella teaches young girls and see if we can all get behind it, shall we? Continue Reading »

Antichrist Obama

Published by Dark Passenger under W T F? Edit This

The face of hope and change? Or the face of evil incarnate? If you have any friends who are a members of the extreme religious right then you’ve no doubt received the e-mail claiming President Obama is the Antichrist.  If you watched The Daily Show on Comedy Central last night then you heard it proclaimed again.

Of course, last night you would have also heard it said that our President is Hitler and possibly a bisexual pimp…or a bicycle; I’m not sure on the exact details since that guy was a little loony tunes at the end there… Continue Reading »
