Your Dark Passenger

Hey dark passengers.  I probably should have mentioned this sooner, but I’m staying with a friend this week so Your Dark Passenger is on a mini-vacation.  Oh well.  Now you know…and knowing is half the battle. (G.I. Joe…Go Joe!)

Anyway, I was talking to my mom after I brought my sister home from the Twilight DVD Release Party a few weeks ago and the subject of guardian angels came up.  She shared with me something someone had once told her and it popped into my head this morning so I thought I’d share some of my more angelic thoughts with y’all.

What do you think of when you hear people talk about guardian angels - or angels in general?

As odd as this sounds, I always think of the television show ‘Touched by an Angel’ and then I think of my dad.  You see, when I was in high school that show was on every Sunday night.  It didn’t matter what I was doing, he would show up at my bedroom door at 6:55 pm to remind me that it was coming on.  He always said, “If you don’t go to church then you have to watch ‘Touched by an Angel’.  It’s a rule.”

Of course, even if I did go to church with my grandparents then I still had to watch it…just without the rule being stated.

I think a lot of people imagine their guardian angel to be flying over their car as they drive down the highway at unsafe speeds.  Maybe that’s true.  I know I’ve personally been in situations where I shouldn’t have been able to avoid a collision after some moron’s pulled out in front of me in the rain or swerved into my lane, but I just seemed to know what I needed to do a split second before I had to act.

But is that really the job of a guardian angel…to keep us from getting into fender benders?

There’s a theory out there that each and every person has their very own guardian angel assigned to them.  They don’t protect us from the little scrapes we so often get ourselves into; their purpose is much higher than that.  Our guardian angels are here to protect us from demon attacks by warning us.  It’s even said that the very clear voice calling your name that drags you out of deep sleep is your guardian angel trying to wake you up so you are not the victim of a demon attack in your sleep.

Some people even claim they’ve seen blurs of black and white “shadows” appearing to fight over their bed.  Could this be a guardian angel fending off a demonic assault?
