Paranormal Investigator Interview - Kendall

Published by Dark Passenger at 5:44 pm under Paranormal Investigations Edit This

Would you investigate here? Paranormal investigators would!Happy pre-holiday Friday, dark passengers!  Before I start tossing loads of evidence and findings from local paranormal investigations at y’all, I thought it might be useful for you to know a little something about the founder of Paranormal Investigations of North Texas, Kendall Rubio.  Luckily, she agreed and was kind enough to answer some interview questions for us.  (And even some supplemental questions on psychic gifts for another project of mine.)  If you think of any additional questions after reading the interview, please feel free to leave them in the comment section so I can get an answer for you.

So, without further ado, here’s the interview with paranormal investigator, Kendall Rubio:

How long have you been investigating the paranormal?

I have been investigating on and off on my own since 2004, but really started to investigate full time, and with my team, at the beginning of this year.

How did you get involved in paranormal investigations?

I got involved with the paranormal through having my own personal experience with it.  These experiences spanned over 2 years at my private residence in Kansas City.  I really had no one to turn to at that time, because of conflicts with regards to experiences versus faith versus religion.  I knew at that point that I would, in one way or another, be brought into this field, and I am pleased to have been able to start my own organization to assist people that go through experiences with things that they don’t understand.

What do you hope to accomplish?

Basically, I want people to have someone they can turn to.  Being paranormal, these experiences, by definition, do not make sense.  To have a person to talk to, and vent to, is always a plus.  I do not feel I need validation from anyone, as far as whether or not the paranormal exists, so I don’t need to try to accomplish that.  I would, however, like to continue to add credibility and professionalism to this field.

What is your role on the team?

I try, because it’s the organization that I started, to make sure that everyone is
following our teams ethical guidelines, our code of conduct.  This is the foundation of what this group stands for.  By keeping the team within these ethical borders, everything seems to work.  I don’t need to babysit my team, because it’s not a game to them. We have a very open door policy with this group, I’m human, therefore, I’m fallible, there may be a way of doing things that is more productive than what I originally thought, so I encourage healthy debate, I encourage freedom to give personal opinion, and have exercised using my members ideas over mine, simply because it works better.

What is your approach to a new case?

Each new case presents new possibilities.  I walk into and expect my team to walk in with no expectations.  Expectations can lead to false assumptions.  We know that any case could have a natural explanation, human haunting, inhuman haunting or other type of energy.  It would be a grievous error to assume anything about a case before a thorough investigation or series of investigations are completed.  We do, however, want to be subjective, trying to debunk the client’s experiences first, because there could be very natural causes for these types of occurrences.

Do you charge for your investigation services?  Why or why not?

We do not, and we never will.  That’s tantamount to the Red Cross charging for every bag of food that they so charitably donate to those in need.  There’s way too much room to take advantage of people in this field, I won’t be one of the unethical.

What kind of equipment do you use on an investigation?

We tend to use equipment that is most commonly used in the paranormal field.  There is constant development with regards to paranormal detection equipment, so each year we find some great new tools.  We use Mini DV cameras, Camcorders with night vision capability, digital cameras, K2 meters, EMF detectors, digital voice recorders, and infrared night vision cameras. The most important piece of equipment I have available to me is my investigators. They are intelligent, perceptive and problem solving.

In your opinion, what is most often mistaken for paranormal?  (When it isn’t)

Natural anomalies like weather, light reflections, ambient noise in or around a property being mistaken for paranormal is also common.  Stress plays a big part with people that feel they are experiencing paranormal occurrences.  A person under great stress can see and hear things much differently than, say, someone who is having an easier time in their life situation.  With regards to cases where someone may feel they are possessed by an entity or demon, often times, mental illness or issues are confused with possession. We will never automatically dismiss a case where a client is undergoing great stress until we have thoroughly investigated.

Do you think the ghost hunting/paranormal shows on TV are a good representation of what investigating is really like? Why or why not?

Yes and no.  There are shows out there that profile some really great teams that operate within controlled ethical guidelines.  Then there are shows that profile teams that operate so far out of the territory of ethical bounded investigating that it’s frightening.  Keep in mind, its one hour, that surmises an 8 – 12 hour investigation.  Paranormal investigating can, at times, be as exciting as listening to golf, in an empty room, while watching white paint dry.  There are times, that are exhilarating, but it typically takes a great amount of patience, and a healthy sense of humor.  It is bothersome to some degree, because there are younger people out there that watch these shows, and then go to the local cemetery and try to mimic what they see on TV, without having knowledge of the area, the paranormal or permission to be there.

Can you tell us about your scariest encounter while on an investigation?

I don’t scare easy when it comes to paranormal, nothing at this point has, by definition, scared me.  I have had an investigator attacked, just recently, at an investigation, by an unseen force.  He ended up with a 3 to 4 inch scratch down the side of his face.  That scared me; I became concerned for him and my other investigators.

In your opinion, what is the most common misconception about paranormal investigators/investigations?

That we get paid to do this; that we are rolling in the big money.  I have received many emails, asking me what salary I pay my investigators.  That would be nice.  Another common misconception is that this is our full time job.  Far from actually, we have full time, real, paying jobs, some of us have children, and some of us are college students.  Basically, paranormal investigators are real people, maybe a little quirky at times, but real nonetheless.

Is there anything else you think people should know about what you do?

I want people to understand that this is not a game.  What we do involves real people, with real lives, with families and homes.  If we go in there like a bunch of rogue priests, and paranormal gun slingers, we can destroy lives and relationships.  Our code of conduct is our most important tool when approaching our investigative direction on an investigation.

How can people learn more about your organization and what you do?

Our group has several ways for people to find out about who we are, and what we do.  First and foremost, our official website is the best source of information on our group, team members, investigations, and upcoming events.  We are also launching our EVP Lounge BlogRadio Talk Show.  The EVP Lounge will be featuring a wide variety of topics having to do with the paranormal.  We will have featured guests, call in opportunities for listeners and fascinating topics of discussion and debate.  We also have a MySpace page and can be found on Twitter.  Those sites are few places that you can find our group on the web, but if your readers would like to know more, again, the best source to find all of our links is our website.

Please note that the opinions expressed above are that of the interview subject and not necessarily those of Your Dark Passenger or Today.com.

Okay, so I thought I’d be able to keep quiet and not editorialize on the interview, but…well…y’all know me.  I’ve got to say that I am SO glad I wasn’t part of the investigation where the guy got attacked.  Can’t y’all just see a cloud of dust where I was just standing and a me-shaped hole in the wall where I made my escape? Kiss

I also feel compelled to add that some mental illnesses are, in fact, the result of demon possession/oppression.

Have a happy and safe 4th of July, y’all!

Jen

    To Whom It May Concern:
I am writing to seek your interpretation of what has happened to me over a period of years. When I was going thru a divorce, I tried marriage encounter; when we arrived they took our prints? We were told to sleep in sep beds/rms. There was this girl looking over at my ex so I asked who she was…they said she was with her brother? At marriage encounter? The next evening there were talks and lectures and I felt fuzzy..another time I felt like this was at a charasmatic prayer group mtg when these old medieval looking women joined hands and chanted words and langugae I did not understand; after that I could not pull myself together and almost broke down. It led me to therapy and I told the dr he was having an affair; the dr said does she have brown eyes, blue..how do you know with an insistance like a judge hitting a gavel. He told me there was no other woman….then I heard behind closed doors what he said to my ex and decided he could be sent to a freezer like he said our parents should. At his co-worker’s wedding, he was leaving to have a joint (with a female co-worker and her sister) so I joined them. When I came to my senses, they were gone and I was left in the car, walked back into the wedding hall and they came in after me? The car of his co-worker was like the car I saw in the snow one day and it looked like him, I got the plate and asked a person to check who it belonged to it was this friend of my sister’s that I saw a person who looked like the person at marriage encounter. Now not trusting anyone especially my family who gave him right although he was lieing thru his nose. Another incident, a boyfriend of 5 yrs takes me to a Joan Rivers show, after waking up the next morning with only 1 drink nite before, I was disorientated, shaking and cold..I dont know what happened to me (I found 3 dot like scratches on my arm) I was out of it for awhile. I recently went to a psychic since my children appear different to me (not crazy just a mother who knows the difference) she told me I was in the dark for a long time and needed to be cleansed ($4,000) could not do that she also said my daughters were far away and someone with dark skin was preventing them to be with me. I did not tell her this, she knew and so did I. Years ago, while going thru a divorce, my ex called up an aquaintance, he said, ———-you owe me, wait a while, we know what she likes and then erase? I was living with those fearful words and not knowing what he meant. I would not out for 5 yrs after divorce; joined a dating service and the people I dated reminded me of my cousin’s cousins (2) she even called them cousin whats his name at family functions, she referred me to marriage enclounter, the therapist and I figured out it was one of her cousins or mine he was involved with although THAT ex married someone different who he now looks different. Sounds weird, but true, something has happened in my life and it is not normal, more like paranormal or some force of power with people surrounding me that have a hold on me. Please try to analyze and make sense of this, I know it is not normal but can’t put a finger on it. I can tell you this, the last name of the person was Giordano (holy hell like Bruno Giordano). Thank you.

Linda - That’s…wow. I’ll have to think about this one for a bit…or maybe another reader will have some ideas about it.

First impression? The way you’re experiencing loss of time/memory loss reminds me of brainwashing…or the effects of some kind of drug. (Not necessarily illegal. About a year and a half a go, I’ve got a span of time that I don’t remember all that well because of a medication my doctor had me on to help me sleep…loss of time was a totally unexpected side effect.)

That chanting you describe sounds like some sort of a ritual. I’m hesitant to say it’s an occult thing simply because too much bad stuff gets blamed on the occult just because it’s not fully understood.

And honestly…I’m glad you didn’t have the money for the cleansing you were told you needed. While most legitimate psychics are truly trying to help others, there are the bad eggs out there who just want to make some fast money off the pain of others.

If, however, you do feel as though you need to be cleansed, I’ll go ahead and list a few things you could try without spending a fortune and I’ll make note of this so I can expand on the topic in future posts.

*If you’re religious, try praying for clarity by whatever means your religion teaches.
*If you’re not particularly religious or you find prayer alone doesn’t help enough, consider a focused meditation (quiet reflection) session. During meditation, you may want to visualize a fog clearing away from your mind or being flooded with light to dispel the darkness.
*Maybe a chakra meditation would help? I’m not 100% on which chakra would correspond to what you describe. I might guess 3rd eye chakra to help you see that which cannot be seen or the crown chakra for wisdom…I’ll do a bit of research on them to find out if another wouldn’t be better…
*I don’t have the link handy, but I recently wrote about clearing away psychic clutter. That might apply here. If there’s anything you were given during that encounter then I strongly suggest getting rid of it since it may be the means by which another is still able to link to you. Breaking the connection is the first step to getting out from under someone’s influence.

Hmm….I really wish I could be more helpful. :(
