Your Dark Passenger

Do you ever get bored?  I do - a lot, actually.  Sometimes when I’m bored I like to look at advertisements.  Some of them are funny and some of them are informative, but I like to try figuring out what story they’re telling me.  Every once in a while, I like to attempt getting inside the model’s mind to determine what they were thinking when the picture was taken.

Logically, I decided to look at my ads tonight when I got bored.

Now, there are few things that bear mention at this point before I continue:

1. I don’t pick my sponsors and I have zero control over what advertisements are placed here, and
2. I love each and every sponsor because they keep me from having to blog somewhere where I’d have to pay for hosting.

Having said that, let’s take a look at the first ad I looked at tonight.  Oh, I’m only posting them below because if you’re reading this a month from now and they’re back showing ads for cord blood and psychic readings then this post will still make sense.  So let’s get to it… (more…)

I think most people are familiar with the term “writer’s block.”  I myself tend to think of the movie Misery.  It’s not really a movie about writer’s block, but it’s about a writer being given a touch of motivation so I consider that close enough for my purposes.

Would you want to make that face mad by not writing?  I thought not.

Anyway,  people - writers - spend a lot of time discussing writer’s block and the strategies used to beat it.  Since you can find more than 8.4 million sites on Google to help you with that problem, I won’t be discussing it.  Instead, I’d like to chat about just the opposite, what I refer to as a motivational meltdown.

On some level, with various activities and endeavors, I believe we’ve all been here.  Since I consider myself a writer first and foremost, I’ll use that to provide you with a frame of reference for what I mean. (more…)

Here’s a pointless fact about me, y’all…MSN is my homepage and I’ll read any piece of crap articles they put in that little three-page slide-show box of “news” at the top of the page.  Yeah…anything.  While I finish taping newspaper to my wall to uncover the MOTHER OF ALL VALENTINE’S DAY CONSPIRACIES for you, I thought I’d leave you with a little something something to pass the time while I wait for the aliens to beam inspiration into my brain.  (Tin foil hat…off.  Ready to receive.)

There’s probably a special link I’m supposed to use to link you up to this article, but there was one story on the side about why you can’t find a job even though you’ve sent out hundreds of applications and that distracted me.  I mean, obviously it’s because no one likes you, right?  Anyway, if you want the full list of 25 jobs that pay more than $25 then have at it.  I won’t be talking about all of them because, frankly, I lose the will to be sarcastic after about 10.

Yes, dark passengers, you read that correctly.  Tonight, Day 2 of the 13 Days of Love will tackle what to get that special someone for Valentine’s Day when you don’t want them to be that special someone any longer.

Let’s face it, Valentine’s Day is an especially rough time of year for those who don’t want to be part of a +1 situation.  It’s not like you can break up with your not-so sweetie on V-Day either because then you’ll be labeled a total jerk for the rest of your dating life.  So, short of spending a fortune on expensive V-Day swag (guys) or putting out for Mr. Lame-o (ladies), what can you actually do to make your point without making the point?
